Blackout Crisis

I believe this is a good way to protest SOPA and PIPA. Censoring the internet will cause a lot of companies to lose money meaning more job losses and more recession. I also believe this is denying rights to a free and open internet. Blacking out the internet will help people realize what it would be like if SOPA and PIPA went through, and it will get people to do something about it. Small websites do not have sufficient funds to support getting information, so they rely on bigger websites like google and wikipedia, and if they are censored the small sites will have nothing.

Researching Poster Design and Typography

The four most important things to remember when making a poster:

1. To find a way to catch someone's attention
2. To remember not to stray away from the main issue
3. Make your poster creative

Great Poster: Alternative Fuels

This poster is great because it convey a message and it attracts the viewer. The picture shows people that the whole world is dependent on oil. And the text tells us this needs to change.

How I made my PSA

First, I created a script to relate to my senior project on alternative fuels. Second, I recorded the voice over which reflected the script. Then, I gathered all the pictures and music required to go with the overall motive of the PSA. After that, I used Adobe Premiere Pro to put my pictures and voice over together. Before I finished, I made all necessary arrangements to polish the video, like music, animated text, etc. Lastly, I uploaded it to YouTube.

PSA Article Review

This article is very helpful in understanding public service announcement. It tells us that a PSA is exactly what its title stands for, it is an announcement in the form of media that is publicized for the good of the public. This article breaks down the components of a PSA and tell us what a PSA truly intends to do. I learned that PSA's are useless if you don't intend to get through to the reader. I also learned that not all PSA's need music and sound fx because it doesn't always go together with your subject. I will need to visualize my audience and say things that will make them want to care. I will have to tell them how this is affecting them or how it will benefit them. I also learned that talking about the result will keep the audience interested. These ideas I learned in the PSA are very helpful and I will definitely incorporate them in my PSA.

PSA Intent

My PSA will attract all environmentalist, economist, and anyone who uses a gasoline powered car. I will be using still pictures, statistics, animations, voice over, music, etc. to attract viewers. I intend for my PSA to be informative and attractive so viewers can jump aboard the cause and research the subject more. My PSA will be around the 30 second mark so it will be quick and catchy. It will state that an alternative to gasoline would be beneficial to both the economy and environment. My PSA will first inform you of the problem, then it will tell you the solution, lastly it will briefly discuss the benefits.

Begin Preliminary Identification of Presentation Capstone Elements

Defining the Scope and Approach to my Presentation

• My capstone will not require me to purchase any props because I will be making a model on the computer of how a hydrogen powered generator will work.
• I will probably put my information on a science board so that it can stand on its own. It will not require a stand or anything to stay up.
• I will be making a 3D prototype model of it on the computer, so people can see how it works.
• An appropriate dress for my presentation would be a suit because it will make me look more professional, and it will seem as though I know what I am saying/doing.
• Some important points are how it affects people, what the benefits are, how we can make the change.
• I will be presenting a brochure that gives more of an in dept on the issue at hand.
• I will also present a video and website. The video with a quick overview, and a website with more detail.

Dissusing Looks and Feels

1. My capstone project is more of a serious matter, because it involves the environment and economy and it affects nearly everyone.
2. Some appropriate colors would be in the darker area like dark green or black, nothing too bright. I will not use any fancy fonts, I will make it straightforward and easy to read. The design layout will involve the environment. There will be graphs to show the different cost projections for other fuel types.
3. Video - Will give people a motivation to look more into the matter at hand, it will persuade them that they are also being affected. Print - This will be the second step after the video that gives them an insight on how this is affecting them and in what ways this can be prevented. Site - This will be the 3rd step, it will consist mostly of information that goes into more detail about the specific alternative, its benefits, and cost.
4. I will make my point of view understood through the means of persuasion. I will show people that they are greatly being affected  by the increasing oil prices. I will persuade them to step up and get the government to act on this issue. I will tell them all the benefits that result from taking an alternative.
5. I am intending to create a model of a hydrogen powered generator that will get people to realize that this idea of alternative fuels is possible, so people can go one step further.

Thinking Ahead on PSA

1. I will emphasis that this will benefit us environmentally and economically!!
2. I think a good way to present this would be a model. I could create a model of a hydrogen powered generator that people could look at and develop and see that this idea could really become reality. I could also create a website with more detailed info on these alternative fuels.
3. Alternative Fuels PSA - This PSA was helpful in that it was kind of funny and it also provided me with a lot of good info, which kept the watcher interested and informed. Biodiesel Fuel PSA - Very quick PSA so it kept the attention of the watcher, but it only focused on one alternative fuel. It had good animations witch  made it seem more professional.

Capstone Project Statement of Intent

1. To find an alternative fuel for gasoline to be able to use in our cars, thereby decreasing oil dependence on foreign countries, decreasing cost, and increasing environmental stability.
2. This issue has been affecting all of America due to the greater use of automobiles today. The driving cost of gasoline has hurt the economy greatly and something needs to be done to stop it. The burning of gasoline also hurts the environment by emitting CO2 which is the major cause in Global Warming.
3. This will go well with my career in engineering, because these are the kinds of issues engineer's deal with.
4. It will help bring down the cost of gasoline and will provide us with an alternative that will benefit us environmentally and economically.
5. Environmentally - The alternative will be environmentally friendly causing less pollution and waste. Economically - It will dramatically decrease cost which will help rebuild the economy.
